Connecting Rod Bearing Failure in the BMW M3

Those that own a BMW M-Series have something in common – they have a passion for automotive performance. At A & M Automotive, in Bellevue, Washington, we understand and even share that passion. That is why we want to be sure we are proactive in letting our customers who own one of these high performance vehicles know of potential issues that could certainly hamper that experience.

One issue in particular we have seen with the BMW M3 pertains to the collecting rod bearings. These bearings play a crucial role in making sure the connecting rods connect the pistons and the crankshaft. The rods convert the motion of the pistons into the rotary motion of the crankshaft before being further transmitted to the wheels. The connecting rod bearings help reduce the friction generated during the crankshaft rotation.
