2009-2019 PORSCHE 997, 991, CAYMANS, AND BOXSTERS EQUIPPED WITH PDK TRANSMISSION OFTEN ENCOUNTER A FAULT THAT COMPLETELY DISABLES THE TRANSMISSION

"Transm. fault." appears as the error message. perhaps no R gear Drive on, please? A&M Auto Repair is pleased to provide a fix for the annoying PDK distance sensor issue. Do you have PDK failure in your Porsche 911 or any recent model? Owners of the models 997, 991, Cayman, and Boxster (981) have experienced some very terrifying circumstances in which a gearbox malfunction causes the car to go into limp mode or renders it inoperable. This can be the result of a bad displacement or distance sensor inside the PDK transmission. Your Porsche will have displayed the notification "Transm. problem. perhaps no R gear Drive as you can. Repair your 7DT45 and 7DT70 Porsche PDK transmission / gearbox instead of buying a new one! The distance / position sensor failure is typically indicated by codes:
P1731
P1732
P1733
P1734
P1735

Car is undrivable or in limp mode Dash message “Gearbox fault...” OBD codes 1731,1732,1733,1734,1735 and some 17Dx OBD errors “Shift rod N displacement sensor” Dealer/Shop diagnosed “distance (or position) sensor failure”

The distance/displacement sensor, a crucial component of the Porsche PDK gearbox, serves to inform the control unit of the current locations of all four shift rods. To ensure proper gear shifts, the sensor pack and gearbox control unit are in continual communication. When a sensor malfunctions or dies, the control unit is unable to function properly, which causes the vehicle to continue moving in the gear that is currently selected, stop shifting, and completely prevent the vehicle from moving again after it has been stopped. Actual "overnight" sensor failure is possible. Nothing can be done to "avoid" the issue from happening, and there is no notice.

It's possible to argue that the sensor will fail "when," not "if."

And occasionally, additional 17xx problems. The faulty gear position sensor may now be replaced with a new T-Design unit thanks to A&M Auto European Department, when previously this type of problem needed a new and very expensive PDK transmission. The Porsche part numbers 0501325775, 0501327105, and 0501324703 are replaced by this whole new aftermarket replacement part (2021 vs. 2007); it is not produced by ZF or sold by Porsche. Since 2009, fits 911, Cayman, and Boxster models (997 991 981 718 models). This fix resolves the "when" problem.
